Honda
Technology
For Honda, engineering is a means to an end, not an end in itself. Honda believes that it is far more important to determine and anticipate the needs of consumers and society if necessary to pioneer technologies to meet those needs rather than offering products based on existing technology.
Indeed, Honda can claim a number of notable firsts in terms of technology.
The VTEC engine revolutionised the world of motoring with its new controlling valve movements.
Independent suspension, front wheel drive and an active torque transfer system for new stability in cornering was all developed by Honda to bring customers new technologies of real value.
We’re also world leaders in robot technology. Our latest creation is ASIMO (Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility), which walks, responds to movement and performs a wide range of tasks. Through this work, we’re finding new ways to integrate technology into everyday life, and create future machines with a uniquely human dimension.
The four-foot (1.2 meter) machine walks on two legs, anticipating its next move and shifting its centre of gravity to maintain balance. Asimo can also talk, climb stairs, and lift and serve things.

• Honda has built an indoor, all weather vehicle-to-vehicle crash test facility, the first of its kind, to greatly improve vehicle safety at the research stage.
• Honda is the largest producer in the world of internal combustion engines, making more than 11 million units annually.
